“My Experiences and Learnings During my On Job Training (OJT)”

It is interesting to know in schooling varied projects, right-ups and community service are rendered and encountered by students. This was the index of interest to us to focus our work and studies to gain knowledge and experiences for the good of all.

Many people say that “experience is the best teacher”. My experience at the Adolescent Health and Youth Center (AHYDC) teaches me good values that I will treasure and are worth emulating. I encountered the best people to work with even with a very short period of time.

Situations of a first time to a place to anyone have varied feelings. To me I encountered fear, excitement, aloofness and even the feeling of being inferior. I was ashamed to introduce myself to the office assigned to me for the On Job Training (OJT) services. When I reported to the office I was hesitant to mingle with the employees specially the superiors in the youth center. But the employees of the office were very kind, friendly and accommodating. They assured me to feel at home with ease and belongingness.

With the assurance of the employees in the Youth Center we established a rapport. I then assured them not to hesitate to do computer jobs for them, especially that the center has the tradition profiles of their records. From that day I updated the profiles of the youths in the computer.

After a few days I felt confident and I established confidence in my work as well as a good friendly relationship with the superiors and employees in the office. They consider me as their younger brother and even a relative and confidante. I was sometimes their shock observer even in their family problems. I was very close to all of them. They do not hesitate to ask me to help them and even ask me to teach them how to use their computer equipments because not all employees are computer literates. I even present myself to do their job assignments and even janitorial jobs cause I always report to the office early.

The employees of the Youth Center requested me to answer telephone calls, update youth profiles and upload photos to their accounts. I was very close to the employees. We ate our lunch together. We shared our food and they invited me to their gimmicks even during off hours. I enjoyed much in my On Job Training (OJT) at the Youth Center, Provincial Population Office.

Everyone in the office assured and welcomes me to the office anytime. We really had a very close relationship. The employees in the Youth Center introduce me to their friends who are also working in Leyte Provincial Capitol which they befriend me too. I also made friends with the SADE youth members of Leyte.

I won their trust and confidence. They even related to me even their deepest secrets. According to them I easily got their trust and confidence though they are very much my seniors. And I even found that the Officer-In-Charge of the office (Ma’am Mel) is my distant relative. No wonder why my other On Job Trainees envied me with the camaraderie we have had. I really enjoyed my training because I can easily adjust to varied situations. It was really a remarkable, worthwhile and unforgettable experience.

I had completed my two hundred hours On Job Training last February 8, 2010. I never thought that up to that date I had been rendering more than the two hundred allotted hours because of the enjoyable ambience and employees of the office I was assigned to. The employees never ever let me go. According to them they will miss me. I also felt that for me it really hurts to say “goodbye” to them. I cannot afford to leave them.

But in situation like this, in every beginning, there is always an end. That’s why the afternoon of February 8, 2010, I surprised them with a simple snack. We in the Youth Center had a get together. I sneaked out of the office and got my prepared snack. Oh! They shouted with joy. Our get together snack extended up to midnight. We had our extended gimmick at the Astrodome Bars and Resto wherein they treated me a “goodbye” party according to them. I extended to them my heartfelt thanks to the very accommodating officer and employees. They are expecting me to visit the office anytime, because they will be missing me. And I will miss them too.

My On Job Training ended but the memories of the best officemates will linger in me till the end time. I will treasure the unforgettable experience I have at the Provincial Population Office. I left the employees with heavy heart. It pains me much to end our good and wonderful moments. But, I will be going back to the office every now and then. The harmonious relationship will never end instead it will flourish and bloom into a stronger stage of togetherness.
